Why are my chicks dieing???

So if it is the chips - are they getting the toxins from eating something or breathing it? I have taken the chicks out of the run for now, but I'm wondering if I could keep them in a separate cage in the run on pine shavings or sand. That way they could still sort of be with the flock. But if the toxins come from breathing - that wouldn't work. Inside the coop I just have pine bedding - no chips. So I could put them with their mom at night.

the chicks need medicated chickstarter it will help alot trust me give them medicated

Take all the babies inside. The momma won't know what to do with them and once they get to sick she won't care for them.

the one that is not eating or drinking. you need to get some water in it. Try some electrolye water, gatoraide or poweraid. (Not Red or Pink) Are they pooping. Look at their vents. is there any white stuff there? Are their vents moving? If you don't have any of the above for water, put a little sugar in some luke warm water and get it in the worst baby. Not to much, you don't want to over do it. If you have some wet catfood and they will eat it try that as a last resort. I use it as a supplement for my game birds and they love it, but all chickens will eat it, but they don't need it. Most of them love it, so if I can't get them to eat anyting else, I try the cat food.

I would try yoguart and or scramble eggs first.

I need a little more info though and mabye some pics of the babies.

Thanks,
Teresa

I honestly doubt it is the mulch. Check your chicks for mites and lice. They will kill a chick is very short order, and the symptoms are a good match. You will need to treat all the birds, not just the chicks.

I still don't know what it is. I've had 2 die so far - but the last 2 have been going strong for a few days now. I've put a small cage in the run with sand in it. They're on medicated feed and have water. Momma hen stays by the cage most of the day. At night I put the chicks in the coop with her and in the morning they go back in the cage. So far so good - I'm hoping these last 2 make it. Oh, and no lice or
mites. Thanks for the help!
