Why are my drakes going across the street?

I have two khaki Campbell drakes (yes I know I should get more females so pls don’t bring that up unless you must) and I live pretty far from the road. Like my driveway is pretty long and the road is fairly busy and cars go fast. Any who my boys keep going across the street to eat the bird seed. It takes a while and I’m starting to think my nieghbors hate me. And let me add that I have several acres in my backyard so they aren’t bored.

When I had females, they never travelled across the road even when the boys did. They would stay in my yard and wait for there boys to come home. So I’m jus wondering if anyone knows why they could be doing this? So drakes just naturally travel more then females?

Did the females find out about the bird seed? Can you remove it to discourage the males? Sounds like they may have wandered a different way (in front of your house instead of behind) and saw some goodies that kept them coming back!

Well the seeds are my nieghbors so I can’t really ask them to remove it. I have bird seed at my house as well which they usually ignore. Also they don’t always go across the street just for seed. Sometimes they just wonder around. I meannt to say that in my first post

That makes sense.... I don’t know if drakes are any more curious that hens. It would make sense behaviorally, but I’m just speculating. Maybe to keep them away from the street and your neighbors you could just get the little check black fence from Walmart? Keeps my ducks from going certain places

Good ideas but unfortunately my drakes will fly over everything! Stubborn little birds. Lol

Fencing at least 4' high is about the only way to keep them home and save them from being run over.
Ok. I was hoping on letting them be free range but if they keep going over then I’ll have to think about getting a fence. If I’m out with them they are down but once I turn my back they off! And it’s wierd cause like I said I have a HUGE backyard. Can’t they explore that???!!!
