Why are my "Welsummer hens" different colors?

Is one a cross breed? Is Anna a roo?

If they are Wyandottes then the darker one on the right is def a boy....sorry

The one on the right is a cockerel, left a pullet.

Nooooooo, I have 2 welsummers and one is golden and one is that dark reddish color. Is that what is the distinguishing factor?

Yes, the roos get the reddish color whereas the pullets/hens stay the brown

I guess we'll shorten his name from "Anna Mercury" to just "Mercury."

Incidentally, what do the chicken factories do with all their unwanted male chickens? Or maybe I don't want to know.
