Why are my neighbors so....so... so... I dont even have an appropriate word!

Let me explain.

Im home for the day because Its junior/senior work day at our school (were someone buys a Junior Or Senior for $50 and they have to work from 8-3. )

So I was out letting my ducks out and they headed to the ditch . I was at the back of the barn, dishing out corn before i went down there with them. SO I see this car go by, stop, and back up. No im used to this because people like to watch my ducks in the ditch.

Please note - I was maybe 100 yards away, standing in the open where they could see me and i could plainly see them and my ducks.

So this girl gets out of the car ( It was two teens ) and starts CHASING MY DUCKS!

Im like what the crap! What is wrong with my neighbors?!?! SO I start walking down there, i didnt want to shout anything at them because I am home alone and if there was a fight to occur between them and I , I wouldnt have any back up . ( I live in a sort of rough part of town, well right behind anyway )
SO she sees me, gets back in her car with the other girl and starts saying very loudly :

"oh look guh that duckie has orange feet!" and stuff like that. And im just walking over there and looking at her like W .T .F .

So they drive off and I put my ducks up.

Im just amazed at my neighbors. I mean just by my ducks colors you can tell they are not wild! They are PETS. First a lady lets her dog off the leash to chase them and then a girl gets out of her car to?! both times when me or my mom are RIGHT THERE!

Some young people (not all of course), just don't think about what they're doing. They're just in the moment, not thinking about what could happen next.......I have kids, ages 16, 16, 19, and 22, and I was a kid once, so I can truly relate.

They're just inconsiderate morons sometimes. (And adults can be too.) She was probably thinking "OH funny--try and catch a duck!" or whatever.....not thinking, maybe one of the ducks might run out on the road, or gee this is somebody's pet......what a jerk!

Unfortunately, there's not much you or I can do. I try to teach my kids to be considerate and kind. High school kids are particularly mean and cruel sometimes....(Not all of course). All you can do is try to keep an eye on your ducks when they're out, just like you were doing.

If you lock your ducks up for safety, they probably won't enjoy life as much......so I don't blame you for letting them out. It's like that with my chickens......I let them free range...there are different dangers at my place--you've got city dangers, and I've got country dangers--like predators. I think the risk is worth it because my chickens are so happy to be free ranging! So sad when they're locked up.

Hang in there, Goat Walker. Hope you feel better since you got to vent!

We've all heard that saying... "you can't fix stupid". Some people are just plain ignorant.

I think you did the right thing by not getting verbal with them because you don't want them getting even by possibly hurting your ducks next time they are at their ditch. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident and the fun they were seeking wasn't worth repeating.

Im in high school now, and I know first hand how cruel Highschools can be. I got my very first ever conduct check the other day ( of course im not a goody goody, I just never get caught, lol ) because i was defending myself as well as my animals - did the antagonizer get in trouble? of course not! He was only mocking me and shoving it in my face how he cut a ducks head off the other day

and yes, he was being serious because another student who was with him showed me pictures.

Im just so tired of the disrespect around here! In school, in public, in general! I mean our world is just going down hill! Whatever happened to "private property" meaning something?!
If I see them again though, and they do anything of the sort I will have a talk with them, being on my own or not. Thats just unacceptable behavior. Only next time ill have a bat or sling shot on hand.

Dont want to get anyone mixed up so - I do live in the country , sort of, Everyone has at least five - ten acres around here, but about 15-20 miles down the road is a bad neighborhood. So not only do i ha to deal with stupid people, but also with coyotes, possums, racoons and such.

I hate locking my ducks up when i am home. They are locked up when im gone and only get to free range when i am home on weekends and the occasional week day like today. I hate having them locked up because they have already turned their pen to mud.

I'd have reported them to the dean. Seriously. Most serial killers get their start by torturing and maiming animals. These people are seriously disturbed and social study proves that. I saw it myself when I was in school, and yes, those people turned out pretty badly...in trouble with the law at the very least, and seriously injuring people too.

I've never wanted kids, but if I had one, these are some of the reasons I would have to home school. I wouldn't want any kid of mine seeing and hearing the garbage and indoctrination that goes on in our schools today...and it's not keeping them in bubble wrap or isolation, there are just some things that I feel I didn't need to know about as a kid either.

Any possibility she might have been trying to make sure they didn't get into the road where they might have been run over?
