A friend and I purchased chicks from the same farmer and took them home (separate homes). All of mine are fine; half of hers have died. We have different breeds; all of hers are barred rocks. The first one may have died from over handling, but the remaining ones for sure didn't. She said that they seemed to have a bloody discharge when they pooped. Any ideas?

bloody discharge/poop is the nub 1 warning for coccidia. get med for your chicks soon to make sure yours are covered. there is a video teach on you tube about coccidiosis in chickens.. give it a view. and med feed... what kind are you feeding? maybe thats the difference if you have med food and she didnt.

good luck )O(

Sounds like they have coccidiosis. She needs to treat them immediatly with corid. You put it in their water. It is highly contagious and they could all possibly die if she doesnt get them treatment right away. SHould b able to get it at TSC or feed store.
