Until I had my own rooster, I always thought that they crowed early in the morning and throughout daylight hours. Imagine my panic when I first heard my young man crowing after roosting hours! I would run outside with a flashlight, on guard, thinking that a predator was lurking. Now that I have become accustomed to his crowing behaviors, I just smile when I hear him bellow! I never thought I would enjoy owning a rooster. My flock will never be the same without one!
I’m super happy with my boys as well! I love watching Mr Marans patrol for danger, he is super aware, but so far not aggressive at all. I just had an 8YO boy visit and he picked up and hugged Mrs Marans (mr’s favorite hen so far, well the only one I’ve seen him try to mount!) and though he watched carefully there wasn’t any sign of aggression. He tid bits for the ladies already, hasn’t been rough with the other boys (that may change, I’m building out as fast as I can!), and he’s the first out and last in to roost. I really hope his behavior holds as he gets older!
