Crazy chicken lady
Before I got chickens, all the talk was about a rooster crowing. I have three roosters and 9 hens actively laying. My hens are way louder than the roosters. I can't wrap my head around the concept of city ordinances which allow hens but not roosters. It's as if no one realizes how loud hens can be. I feel it's a moral/ethical quandary because I want people to have the freedom to have a flock, but it can still cause domestic feathers to be ruffled when the egg song annoys neighbors and the poor flock owners had no idea the egg song would be so loud and persistent.Mine have always been loud. That’s just who they are! They announce everything. If you free range them, they will quiet down because they will be occupied with other matters. But when they lay eggs they will always sing. Bring your neighbors some eggs as an apology.
Some breeds are less noisy than others, but in the end you can't predict what your hens will be like unless you buy them when they are full grown and actively laying.
