Why are YOU on BYC forums?

I'm here just to talk chickens and make friends! I love discussing poultry, seeing peoples' stories and pictures, swapping advice and ideas, and learning new information. And I offer advice to newer people when it's helpful, too, as I've been raising chickens for more than fourteen years now.

I joined because after I became the foster mom to 17 rescued baby chicks..I spent hours on the web trying to find simple answers..I found this site..posted a question and within 20 minutes I had over 30 answers...and everyone has been so nice...helpful. I like how it is not just for the one type of chicken owner..they have the threads for meat chickens...ducks and other animals. It makes everyone feel welcomed and nobody is ever judged...any questions I have..i can post them with feeling like a complete dork!

I like it here as so many people have previously said "everyone is so nice..and helpfull and you can learn MUCH more here than in a book!"
Plus My daughter made me do it

When and IF that ever happens i will be sure to post about it ....Luv ya Squishy!

As my name suggests I came home to chickens in my yard...... Then I found this very cool place that nifty et al do such a great job of moderating (even when it is me they nee to keep in line!

)

It is the amazingly wide demographic here that keeps bringing me back. I would never get the chance to talk to people from such a wide range of view points and lifestyles as I do here.....

Thanks all!

And MFB? I'm lifting up my shins outta the way!!!

I joined because every time I did a search the 1st thing on the page was byc. I stay because I have meet some really cool people and I like interacting with new people and learning different things. I have found different ways to do things that I never would have thought of. I just like byc.

Hehehe!

Well *I* came to the forums from a link.... it was a news story about a lady here local that refused to give up her illegal chickens, after AC had been out a few times she brought all her chcikens into the house! And when the reporter went back and interviewed the AC guy about it, he said that while it may be true they are still illegal inside a house... if he cant see, hear, or smell them, then as far as he was concerned, there were no chickens! I thought it was soo cute because its probably what I would do in her case... I keep telling my puppy Im going to put him out in the coop and throw some shavings on my carpet for the chickies... They would be better behaved!
No I dont eat eggs... and I keep telling Mum that she cant eat any that my Silkies lay because I want to hatch them! And thats the reason we are contemplating getting some Buff Orps...

Me, I am here because we bought 29 chicks and I had no idea how to take care of them....almost a year later and I am hatching 41 chicks April 12. We have gone from the one coop and run to the build on of another coop and run to the corner run for the cochins and the chicken tractor. Now I have two 6x8 runs that need their own coops and that will happen this summer.

Chicken Math is working it at my house!

Could not have done it without all the shared knowledge that was available on BYC from others that are willing to share!!

I love my chickens!

I found BYC mostly because I was interacting with the ducks at our local lake and wanted to learn more about ducks. I found lots of information here. I even found things about killdeer chicks, too, even though they're not a duck or a chicken, but they do behave a lot like some breeds of chickens. I would like to get my own ducks some day, but I don't know if I'm allergic or if I'll ever be able to afford a place that will let me keep ducks.

I do agree with what a lot of people say about BYC about the fact that people are friendly here. I mean, no, it's not perfect, but there are so many forums where people are complete jerks most of the time!

ETA: My grandfather was an "egg and dairy" man in his younger/middle age and used to talk about chickens all the time. Also, my step-dad used to take care of his boss's chickens, too. So chicken talk is not unusual in my household.
