Why Aren't My Chickens Laying? Here Are Your Answers!

Pics
Hi. Do you free-range your chickens at all? If you do, they might be laying their eggs somewhere else other than the nest boxes. I might start looking for the stash of eggs.

Also, you might start trying out other types of feed and see which ones work the best for egg production. The type of feed you feed them can significantly affect how many eggs you get. We found that our chickens won't eat crumbles, but love pellets. Hope that helps.

Egg Yolk Peritonitis.

It took a lot of research to figure out why my 18 mo old BO hadn't laid in 5 months. I didn't even know such a condition existed.

Yes, the move can be so stressful that they stop laying until they are adjusted and comfortable enough to start again. Once the stress from the move is over they will be laying as before. That is unless you purchased them from an unscrupulous person. I once made an agreement with a fellow to purchase 5 of his 6 to 9 month old hens. My husband picked them up and was sent home with one young bird and 4 much older birds. Apparently the guy thought I wouldn't know. He refused to take the birds back or refund my money. I also have a couple of girls that on rare occasions will stop laying because I changed something in their coop. I moved perches, food, or water to different locations as needed or for various reasons. If they don't like it they go on strike. Eventually they get over it and are back to laying up a storm. I have one hen that will only lay eggs in one nest box and if another girl is in there she will refuse to lay. If a broody is occupying the nest she wont lay her egg until the broody is removed. Unfortunantly the nest is also in the broody coop, so she can go long periods of time with out laying. She is quit the persnickity girl. Right now she has waited through three broods and two weeks since the last hatch. Once the broody starts taking her babies further from the coop then Lola will settle in and I will have to gather the egg from there every day.

My Australorp quit laying almost a month ago. She is just over a year old. She is suppose to be a good layer, but something has happened. And this article didn't help me at all. Just saying. I wonder what is wrong with my baby. I keep thinking that it has to do with her food because we changed to a new Layena and since then she has quit.
