Why bother when it will just get stolen?

Game camera systems are not that expensive. Cheaper than replacing your stuff all the time.

if you use a game camera. get one with the infrared lighting, and put it up high.

these cameras get stolen from hunters alot too.

Last year, during the summer, around 11:30am/noonish, I had a homeless man walk into my apartment while I was 3 feet from my front door inside.
Neighbors across the street, who were moving out, had told me he had tried the other neighbors doors before getting to my door. They didn't try the police, since they didn't never got along with any of the neighbors, and police were called on them countless of times.

I had just gotten a call from my DFiance' that he was on his way home on the city bus with groceries, could I have the door unlocked for him, I did as he requested, and went back to the kitchen.
I had been using a large sharp knife to dice garlic, which I put on my counter, when I heard the city bus beeping to let someone off. I was walking towards my front door, when my door opened, and the homeless man walked into my apartment.

I took a half step back, then had this thought - Wait! This is your house! - I stepped forward towards him and put my right hand up above my head towards him, yelling "do you want to be shot?" over and over again. The homeless man was startled to see me that close after he opened my door, and he quickly backed out of my door, saying he was sorry......
This is what gets me - my DFiance' was coming up the sidewalk and he asked me why was I yelling - ? - he didn't see the homeless man walk to the side of our building, going the opposite way.

If I had had the large knife in my hand, I do not believe the man would be walking out of my door.
I live in Public Housing.
No, I can't have anything growing here either - children/adults/landscapers will tear up whatever you planted.
Seriously moving this summer - back to the country - at least I can have my own land!

Wow...

I couldn't imagine living like that.

When I was a teenager, I made up my mind that I would not live in a subdivision, apartment or trailer park. (nothing against anyone living in them, just too close to too many people.) And I'm lucky that I can say I was able to do most of that. I did live in a house in a sub for a yr going to school, but moved out to a rental home in the country.... I've sence owned 2 other homes. The one I have now is in the middle of 10 acres. I planted alot of pine trees 20 yrs ago so the house is pretty hard to see from the road. Anyone I see on my land is tresspassing and will be dealt with accordingly.

I wish I had a solution for idiots and thieves. I can't stop them from stealing, but I can make the consequences a little more painful. I had big heavy potted plants stolen from my second story balcony in an apartment complex years ago. They had to climb up and lift heavy pots over the railing and climb down with them. Egads, a lot of work for a plant. So I rigged up a hot wire around the bottom edge of the balcony and never lost another one. I did hear a couple of loud Yelps followed by a heavy "thud" a couple of nights. I didn't bother to go out and see what made the sound. Ha!

Later when I moved out of the apartment and into a house I had yard ornaments stolen from the front yard. I found that putting hot pepper spray on them was undetectible, until you touch it and touch your face or eyes. And heaven help you if you go to the bathroom before you wash your hands......Ooooooh, that is an experience you'll never forget I'm sure. It didn't stop them from stealing, but it gave me a little satisfaction knowing that they were gonna hurt later.

You see, "Passive-Aggressive" isn't always bad!

Out here mostly,
Everyone has a Gun permit and thats to carry.
DH made a carved wood sign.the shape of
a Gun , "We dont call 911 " and he means it.
Once a Marine always a Marine.
so far so good.

2 break- ins in the past year,
cost them their lives.
the owners were able to protect
them selves and their family.

as as child I would never have thought to take something that didn't belong to me, I do not understand that now days people take things just to steal its not like they are stealing food or anything just stuff that really isn't important to anyone but the owner such as plants, a garden angle its not stuff you could really sell. I am sick of people I live in the city where I was born and I don't recognize it anymore when I was a child neighbors helped each other and watched out for each other now all neighbors do is call the police or dog pound for stupid stuff no one talks to a person they have a problem with just call the police and the police here are about stupid they label people and no matter what you do they think what they want. I am so sick of the stupidity that people have become I want a place in the country with no neighbors and I am hanging a sign that says trespassers will be shot. and I mean it I am so done with people.

Anyone see the article about the "White Flight"? They're talking about how used to all the white people fled the cities to live in suburia... Less crime, good schools, more space, didn't mind the commute... but that now the whites (I think they said 20-30s) are moving into the cities to find good jobs, no commute (gas prices influenced this I imagine), cities trying to revitalize, etc.

1 it seemed really strange to hear anything like the phrase White Flight... Anyone else notice the freaky amount of studies done where everything is broken down to race or is that just me? Donno why they can't just say HUMANS. Gah.

2 Crime rates haven't dropped, if anything people are getting LESS responsible... if you had a nice place in the suburbs (or gasp country) why would you leave it and drag your kids (or plan to have them) in a crime infested city? Boggles my mind. Sure your drive to work is shorter so you save gas... but that won't do you any good when your car is stolen!

3 They said that now the suburbs are chock full of minorities (well duh, if all of the white folks left wouldn't it be rather obvious that the minority groups were left? I hate when they state the obvious) and the retired and/or elderly (again with the duh since they specified young workers)... that the suburbs poor are in deep doodie because in the cities they push to help those having a hard time, but that in the suburbs less is done.

I'ma have to find the article, but that just my general recollections from reading it yesterday.

Theft in Arlington is insane... children's bikes taken right from the front yard... that copper, etc. theft is rampant, car thefts... I know two people JUST THIS YEAR... and I don't have a huge circle of friends so that's some pretty scary odds. When the cars are found no prints are taken, nothing, car is returned (if possible) and the case is just forgotten. Same with business thefts too. Had a break in where roughly $50k in equipment was loaded into the businesses vehicle/trailer... again no prints no nothing. Eventually a customer spotted the truck out on the highway and they called to ask if they needed help or anything... owners had to go get their vehicle, the police refused to even go look at it, and once back (just a block from the station mind) they still refused. I can understand not hunting down a thief who stole a $20 toy, but $50,000.00 doesn't merit a look?! Oh, or how about Fred... poor guy was sitting at home watching the tube when three guys kicked in his front door brandishing shotguns... he ran and locked himself in the loo and dialed 911... THREE HOURS LATER a single officer showed up to get a statement... long after the psychos realized they had the wrong house and left... though they took a good half hour of threatening to kill Fred to figure it out... sorry but when you say someone is in your home with a gun to your head help should bloody well come in less than three hours... sheesh.

I loathe living in the city for these reasons... but for the time being we're kinda stuck... at least for one more semester...

We live in an area that has become, unfortunantly a thieving area as well. Everyone but us have at least had an attempt to steal something. Our six dobermans may have something to do with that......
