Why did my Amauracana lay a speckled egg?

I've been getting eggs from my Amauracana hens since Nov, but this is the first speckled egg. Any thoughts as to why? Is it possibly diet related?

Facebook link as I am unable to figure out how to post a pic.

Thank you in advance,
Jenn

If this is the only speckled egg this hen lays, it could be a fluke. Speckling is a result of the coloring applied to the egg as it travels down the hen's reproductive tract. Some hens, welsummers in particular, seem to lay speckled eggs and the olive egger offspring I have gotten with a welsummer mother seem to have this trait too as I get speckled olive eggs, some more than others. I think they're pretty.

I'm guessing she normally lays green eggs?

Green eggs are actually a blue egg, with an overlay of brown. The brown is kind of "sprayed" on after the shell is formed. When you get speckled eggs, it's that spray application getting clogged, for lack of a better term. Like a spray can if you don't shake it, if that makes sense. when I told my Honey that analogy, he offered to go out and shake my hens to unclog them

If shes' been laying non-speckled eggs, it's probably a one- off. she'll be back to normal in a few days. I did have one notable hen who consistently gave me a speckled egg, I called them camo eggs

X 2 - all sorts of "blips" can occur in the production of an egg.
