Why did my fish die!?

I sure hope so! And yeah i was at Walmart last night and in almost every tank, there were dead fish piled up against the filter/fan. Sometimes one fish, sometimes quite a few :(

But Walmart also just tends to take worse care of the fish in general, they're just a store that happens to have fish, along with tons of other stuff, as opposed to Petco or something which is specifically a pet store. At least with Petco most of the tanks are a decent size, could be bigger of course, but not usually too small, and they clean them, etc. A little overstocked maybe but they tend to care for the most part. The Walmart tanks are always sooo small. And I feel bad for the bigger fish like the cichlids :(

But one time I told someone at Petco or Petsmart, maybe it was petsmart, it's a different one than I usually go to so I forget, that a fish was dead and they felt really bad and told me to tell them if i see anymore/that they try to take them out right away but miss some, and she went and pulled it out right then.

But of course at all stores ever the goldfish are horribly abused :(

Ours has a large tank, no clue what size but several feet long and tall, but that tank is divided into 3 narrow tanks and just CRAMMED with goldfish. Small, larger I think and the third tank is minnows. It's really sad seeing sooo many fish swim in there.

When I bought mine though there were barely any left, the other two tanks were empty or almost empty, and mine had significantly reduced numbers

Anyway, sorry for rambling haha

But yeah, it really is weird and sad. Bettas are abused too, the things they sell for them are absurd :(

If the tank was nearly empty when you bought these they must have been in them for a while to last it out. So either they are tough or damaged. Wal-Mart is terrible, though I admit I have gotten many of my goldfish from them as they often have nicer fish than the petco has as far as variety, and they are much closer to me. I have given up trying to save all the bettas from them and I try not to look at the poor things anymore. Apparently I like rescuing fish if I can.

My last 5 feeder goldfish from Wal-Mart are thriving and growing like weeds so I feel better that they will have a nice long life with me.

Yeah, I don't know how many were left but maybe only like 20 more or less, definitely way less than normal. So I am hoping they are just tough. Or that the damaged ones already died. There was also a huge one in there. She asked if I wanted him so I said sure and she tried to get him for me but then I said if she couldn't it was fine so I ended up with the grey one. Maybe the large one was eating a lot of the food? And yeah, it is, but as bad as it is I will agree their goldfish here are nicer and they have cool colors. Our Walmart and Petco are in the same plaza so it's just as easy to go to either one. The Petsmart is a little bit further away. But yeah, I feel so bad for the Bettas :(

That's awesome! :)

Walmart needs to take better care of their **** fish. So many dead, dying, even decaying (so been there a LONG time) fish

Yeah, sorry, that was kinda random haha it's just I was there and I was gonna tweet it but decided against it so I posted here haha

Most weren't quite to decaying level but a couple were missing eyes and there were so many dead goldfish :( in the one tank it looked like they'd been stuck in/on the filter a while. I mean seriously, how hard is it to remove dead fish? They have to feed them anyway, right? So while you're in there, take them out.... like really. Like honestly even if they don't want to clean the algae/mold on the tank or change the water or provide more hiding places or care for them any other way, at least take out the dead fish! That's just gross now to. And it's not even a hard job

In our Wal-Mart they no longer have a dedicated fish person like they used to. It's hard to find help if you want to buy fish, and I don't think many employees are interested in the fish so they suffer. About 10 years ago they had fish people, but they got more cheap and stop having them. They also used to have people around who would help in any department, now they all run. I don't mind a rant.

Ohhhh that does make sense. Well that's a shame they chose profit over the animals. How much more expensive could it really be to have one extra person? Or the should just not carry fish. Not all Walmarts do

I like the long low ones for goldfish for more surface area disturbance. I use the blue ones on the left.
