Why did my Wyndotte Chick die???

Oh I'm so relived Cow you dont know how much you scared me then. It's alright though, at least now if i get ducks i know what to do.lol.

With all the diseases 'n such, I'm beginning to question our collective judgement in keepin' birds of *any* kind ~'-)

From a distance, so as to make sure they're unaware, observe your flock for a while. Not for anything specific, but -- just watch, and take note of any that grabs your attention as abnormal or unusual. And, then very closely inspect them for any symptoms. Didn't mean to scare you needlessly before, or worry you w/o good reason now, but -- whatever kills one can often kill many )-;~

Just came home from a 6 day holiday and had a neighbor looking after the hens, not his fault at all but saw that one of my new SLW chicks called Spicks was looking a bit sad when we got home, so i just kept an eye on her but sadly she passed away. I think it was a tick as she was fitting, very sad to see quite a shock really as it was my first death in the flock

I was just wanting to know what could have caused this so i can stop any of my other flock members from getting ill, i think it was a tick as when i came home she was very lethargic and was unsteady on her feet, and just before she died she was fitting chucking her head back and falling all over the place but running as fast as possible in circles. One of my neighbors said she's had a few hens die of chicks recently and i live in Australia so we have them over here.

Reading your first post makes me wonder if your neighbor loosing some chickens first could have something to do with yours dying, we cannot stress enough about Bio security. hers dying then coming to take care of your flock? Can you get your bird necropsy done then you'd know for sure what killed it. Even if she didn't carry a disease into your flock on her person[not intentionally] then it could have come through the air. I hope you can figure it out and protect the rest of the flock.

Yeah it was all a bit mixed up before. So i don't think there is any cross contamination involved, I just want to make sure that my flock will be alright now there was nothing i could do bout the chick and it's happened in the past, i just now need to watch my flock.
