Why do a lot of people give their chickens "little old lady" names?

Well, so many of them ARE little, and the hens ARE ladies. I am one who names chickens, and for the most part, all of my companion animals have had people names.

These are my roosters' names:
Carl (dominant rooster)
Charlie
George
Alex
Bartholomew
then the non-people names:
Nugget
Ghost
Frick (there was a Frack, too - they were twins)
Splash
TJ (hatched from a Trader Joe's grocery egg)

And some Roos who have passed on:
Blue
Kellogg
Yul (Salmon Fav who was bullied and pecked bald as a chick)

It only happens when I let my mom name them. In our original bunch we had Reggie (I named him), Mini Pearl (mom named her), and Henny Penny (mom named her). And I can't forget the white roo we had that my mom named Peppy because he came from Mexico.

The ones we have now, I named them all. So we have Regg, Fox, Cream, Honey, and a hen that doesn't have a name because I can't think of one for her.

I name some of mine old lady names because they remind me of busy body old ladies, standing around gossiping and getting into eveyone elses business, lol.

Umm, because when I name them after recipes, too many people take offense.

We have chickens for the first time this year and several are ending up with little old lady names including several already posted on this thread. Hens just seem like little busybodies and I think the old lady names fit.

i don't normally name my chickens. I have a couple my neice and nephew have named (Damon The rooster and Ashlan a hen) and there is on red hen that is always following me and I call her my little red hen.

the rest have no names. I just refer to them by their patterns and personalities "Miss pushy is at it again"

"Fat butt won't let the others eat"

"I hope The tri-colored speckled chick is a pullet and not a cockerel"
