Why do all of my babies have pasty butt?!

Hi! I think ours is called a 'golden' but I've seen pics of varying colors of golden so...
if you click 'breeds' at the top of the page
then click on box where it says 'chicken breeds sub index'
scroll down page to 'Easter Eggers Golden' (pic of EE standing by a fence) page created by Chicken Frenzie on 12/27/11, I think it's the last posting in the EE section.
that's what ours looks like except ours is a little fuller (winter feathers?!) Our 'Goldie' (called her that before we knew she was a golden!) is 22 wks old and hasn't started laying yet... we can't wait!! We got 6 different breeds and none are laying yet.
As to the yogurt I should have said X2 to what someone else said about egg/yogurt mix (I think what you are doing already). Plain yogurt is fine but mine would only eat it mixed with hard boiled egg yolk (feeding frenzy!) Also what someone said about trimming the fuzz (forgot I did that too) and maybe putting the little one with a small or less active friend for awhile to make sure it's getting enough to eat and not getting 'beat' up are good ideas. Hope you get this worked out before the site goes down for their upgrade tomorrow. The search engine here has always been helpful to me. Sorry to post a book!! Good luck... I think too some chicks are runts just like a litter of pups!

...so I added the ACV (organic w/ mother), and the chicks RUSHED the waterer...until they tasted it. I have never seen such a look of distain from any living creature as frightening as the look I got from those EEs!

Well, I have been trying to get my little tiny yellow EE to eat, but no luck. I think the only thing it is eatting now is whatever I manage to dribble down it's beak...Is there anything like nutrical for chickens? I need something to stimulate her appetite so she will eat on her own...

We used to put a little dirt into the brooder for the chicks to scratch on. That seems to prevent pasty butt. I suspect there are some micro organisms or minerals in the dirt that keeps them pooping correctly.

Have you ever seen chicks hatched by a broody that had pasty butt? I haven't.

Mash just seems to be easier to take in and they seem to love it. If she's not responding to the yogurt / egg mix, it's just something else to try. I really hope she pulls through this...

I fed mine chickweed when I got them. Just added that and a bit of the soil it was growing in. It stopped the problem. They didn't really get bad problems but that chickweed really seemed to help.
