Why does my female quail hyperventilate sometimes? Does that have anything to do with her body temperature going up? I've noticed that only the females do that and not the male.

It usually happens immediately after I place them in their soft tissue bedding. She burrows and cover herself completely at times. To answer ur other question...the male is extremely aggressive when mounting her. He even kicks her violently sometimes...which is when I end up having to separate them. He's already on his 4th wife. My husband says that he's a serial murderer and killed them all prematurely. Hehe. I'm not so sure about that, but he is aggressive and at times even pecks me. Tell me, is that normal behavior for a male quail? Btw, my room is always air-conditioned so I doubt that it's a heat issue. But, u tell me.This can mean they are stressed by something and are afraid, which will elevate their body temperature. If the male isn’t panting, it may be that he’s the thing stressing them out. Does he chase and mount them roughly?
Otherwise it may just be that he isn’t afraid of what they are. If you’re somewhere very hot, they may also just be too warm, offer some cool water ASAP!
If you're talking about coturnix quail, your male needs 3-5 hens. He will overbreed a single hen, and as you've discovered, will injure or even kill her.It usually happens immediately after I place them in their soft tissue bedding. You need a lot more hens. He is likely aggressive because he doesn’t have enough females. If he stays aggressive even if you get more... then get rid of him and find a nicer male!It usually happens immediately after I place them in their soft tissue bedding.
