Why do hatcheries do this? Seems morally wrong and totally dishonest

TO ALL THE OTHER POSTERS WITH NON-AGGRESSIVE POSTS:

I thank you all for holding me together here. I am too old to be fighting on the internet with strangers. I tried to adress them in a manner that gave facts not my opinions to avoid a bigger confontation. I hope they see that I am the real reason I posted this. You each helped me have enough self-control to not say things I would regret or things that were hurtful. In the end, I think I maintain my dignity and pride because I am smart enough to control my words.

I have called that hatchery many times and they refuse to help me. I have not offered the name in any of my forums because slander is not a thing that the law forgives. I will however off this advice to all who order from hatcheries. This one is very popular to avoid the most common hatchery names. They are older than 70 years old and have been taken over by the younger generation so there morals and ethics are different than my generations. So, avoid hatcheries that are that old. Try a new smaller hatchery. I have had excellent experience with Red Top Chick hatchery. They are very small, so small they don't have a website. They offer around eight varieties of heavy breed egg layers at a nice price. They have low-shipping and send healthy chicks. In my order of 27 I never lost one and they are now twelve weeks old. I have there information to any who want it.

Again thank you!

Timothy

I think I would call and complain, and let them know I would NOT be doing business with them anymore. And I think a would imply that they don't know what they are doing and they need to pay attention

I'm sorry things got heated!

: A hatchery should always ship you what you ordered no matter what! The quality can vary of course, but it is just to be expected that they be the breeds you spent money to buy. I'm sorry the hatchery won't help you! Seems they should at least hear your complaints. We almost bought from a hatchery, but I'm glad we didn't! We bought from a local breeder.

If I ever plan to buy from a hatchery, I will take your advice! Thank you for taking the time to post this thread!

I appologize for my strong post!!! I was a little upset not by BANTAMWYANDOTTES post, but by the comments above! I'm sorry for offending anyone, I was just a little upset at the time! People really need to think before they speak and in forums like this comments and certain things can be so construde and taken out of content. There's one great thing about oppinions, everyone has one!

"LOL and ROFL" at those of us who have hatchery stock, you can't get anymore rude then that! It's almost like thier sticking thier noses up at those of us who have hatchery stock and think they are better in some way. I'm sick and tired of running across people like this! I buy hatchery stock, I don't "JUST want chickens"....I love my birds and they are very well cared for, the eggs I get every day are a great bonus!

Again I sincerely Apologize!

I love my hatchery birds. And I love my hatchery.

I don't think anyone here has anything against all hatcheries. They produce great laying and/or meat birds. I consider my birds to be "pure" even though they may not be "show" quality. There is a difference, but that is just my opinion. I prefer the functionality of hatchery birds over the form aspect as well.

I simply think that in the OP's case, the hatchery they used just didn't do right by them. If you promise a certain breed, I think that is what good business ethics require that you deliver. Hopefully that helps.

I agree....Thank you!

Timothy, thank you for the additional explanation you provided. I think you're getting a raw deal and should pursue this, if they're ignoring your CALLS.

Go to your local library and ask if Standard and Poor's lists this hatchery as a corporation. The CEO's name and company address will be listed. If you can't find this information in S&P, ask your librarian to help you find it through other references.

Then use your gift of language to WRITE A LETTER. Be calm, focused, and specific, and include those photos to illustrate why you are such a dissatisfied customer. End the letter with a few sentences along the lines of "We all know word-of-mouth from angry and unhappy customers who have been ignored by Customer Service can go a long way towards negatively impacting the bottom line of that business in both repeat and new customers."

Then send the signed letter and photos CERTIFIED WITH RECEIPT REQUESTED AND SIGNATURE REQUIRED to the CEO. He has to sign for it (or his executive assistant has to with a signature stamp). That signed receipt card will be mailed to you as proof. If you do not receive a satisfactory response to your letter within two weeks, follow up with a short note indicating your intention to bring the matter to the attention of whichever agency in your state oversees business compliance with fair practices, and file a complaint with your closest Better Business Bureau.

The reason I suggest this route? It works. I hunted down the CEO of a major U.S. auto manufacturer for the lemon we bought in the Eighties, and he personally signed for my letter. He sent a regional VP to talk to me the very next week and we were able to resolve the matter to my satisfaction. (It entailed our getting a new car.)

It is truly unfortunate, as you said, that many businesses today do not subscribe to the honor and integrity we took for granted once and must be coerced into doing the right thing. Your action on this matter will save other hatchery customers from going through what you've had to. Good luck with whatever you decided to do!

Does seem like typical hatchery lies. People say that even though they don't buy from hatcheries, they don't dislike them or have anything against them.. However, I am one to say that I do dislike them, and I'm not afraid to. For this very reason.

Sorry. And apologies for their unacceptable service.

I would like to say that slander is only slander when it is untrue. letting people know your experience with a certain hatchery was a bad one and using their name is in no way slander. Using said hatchery's name might inform some of the problem you are having and prevent them from going through the same ordeal. not using the hatchery's name allows them to continue bad business practices.

Correct! Do tell the name, so folks who order from hatcheries will know not to order. However, in almost all hatcheries, the birds look nothing like their photos.

more then a few hatcheries do not hatch all thier birds they drop ship some of the birds they sell so if the quality you expect is not there they cannot do a lot but refund your money. It is kina hard to send better birds when you are not hatching them
