why do I have the feeling that Elliot isn't a pure mallard..bred malla

Templetons little tractor supply buddy, Elliot, just DOES NOT look like a pure mallard, he is very dark where his yellow should be, he feet are SOLID black except for small yellow spot on each foot, he's not big enough to be a ruen, I was looking at pics, and he kind of has a WOOD DUCKISH head O_O, Tractor supply said they came from mount healthy hatchery, is it at all possible that they could have gotten a mixed breed and threw some in there?, only a few ducklings looked like Elliot, the rest looked like mallards.

I'm not seeing Wood Duck. What about Rouen? 2 stripes across eye and no yellow on back.

I thought mine was a mallard when I got it. Has definitely turned into a rouen. Even when young was not that big. Let me see if I can find some pics......

That was at 2 or 3 weeks.

This one is about 7 weeks. He/she is large now! The biggest of the bunch. OK, I just noticed after posting my pics side by side that Sonny's feet changed color !! He/she started out with black feet and now they are completely yellow! WOW! Anyone have an idea of Sonny's gender?

He could be rouen..Even if he isnt that big right now...My mallards have only one stripe of black under their eye looks like your has 2..My babies had soild black feet also but now they are getting ligher..They are weeks weeks right now...

Bungie is about 8 weeks and I am just now seeing signs Bungie is a HE. I saw a slight green shimmer on the head while out in the sun and one of his tail feathers is starting to curl.

When he was a baby, he wasn't nearly as dark as as OP's little duck though.

He looks rouen....because the baby pic looks like 2 stripes under his eyes...
