Why do my ducks have peeling bills?

My ducks beaks are peaking n it’s getting worse it seems.
Is this normal?
I feed them regular duck pellets but they don’t seem interested in eating much anymore. I blame myself because I ran out of food for a month so I had to feed them stuff like lettuce, carrots, rice, etc so they didn’t starve.
Before I did this, they had no issues and ate everything I fed them. Now, they have peeling bills, one is like?? Ig you could say snoring while awake yet their nose is clear n not interested in pellet’s.

Now, if attaching a picture is impossible, here are the things you can do which MIGHT help:
1) spread some Vaseline on their beaks.
2) get them clean fresh water.
3) wet their pellets.
4) mix their lettuce in the feed.
5) give them less food.
6) treat for worms

I think it’s save to say, that if they don’t have any other symptoms, then your problem is dry weather, and picky eating.
