Why do people get so worked up about eating a fertilized egg?

OK, this has all just gotten to be too, too much. Anyone who has grown up on store bought eggs has probably eaten fertile eggs plenty of times without ever knowing it, there are roosters in plenty of the supplier farms, and they haven’t died yet and no one is going to die tomorrow from eating eggs from a yard that has a rooster in it. This thread was kinda cute at first, now it’s just gotten bizarre. Having roosters around to protect the flock, and to breed more chickens has been the standard for centuries, if you don’t want to fine, don't keep a roo, but really, rooster ‘juice’? Yes, there are cells that combine in the hens reproduction system before the shell is laid over the egg itself, and if anyone can taste a single cell or three after an egg is produced, laid, gathered, and fried, poached or boiled, well, god bless em.

Why is it ridiculous that people's opinions vary from your's? I'm not knocking those who eat fertile eggs, so please stop knocking those of us who choose not to. It really doesn't matter WHY we choose not to, it's our right, and I really don't feel that we deserve to be insulted because of it.

Thanks to those of you who are not being rude about it. I can understand that some people really want to know why others will not. I offered up my reasoning behind it, and even admitted that it's simply the thought of it. No other reason than that. I could probably handle opening a chick and eat the next egg ten minutes later without an issue. Like I said before, it's the simple thought of eating a sperm cell.

I am probably going to get yelled at and called a nasty (------) insert name here...I am probably gonna get reamed for how dishonest I am but o well bring it on...LOL

To set the record straight.... i dont have enough eggs anymore to sell so I just give a doz or so a month to my mom... so this is JUST MY DAD that this happens with

here goes:

My dad grew up on a farm in Newfoundland (no newfie jokes please I have heard them all).... anyway... he drank milk from the cow, and from the goat, and from the sheep...he was a "all natural" boy...brags about it...lol... had chickens running around the yard and grabbed the eggs from under her butt and fried the up ... they had roosters too.... but they NEVER touched the hens... they were trained

well when i got my chickens i was TOLD by my daddy.. (I am 35 and married living in my own home btw) that under no uncertain terms am I to get a rooster or he will not ALLOW the eggs into the house.

So when i got my silkies i told him that i now have a rooster BUT the rooster cant fertilize a standard chicken cause they are to small (i know its not true but work with me)

the when I got my ee roo I told him I just keep him separate from my egg hens, and he believes me... so for a year he has been eating fertilized eggs (and not knowing it) and raving about how good they are and how dark the yolks are .. oooooo they are so good.... BUT dont bring a silkie egg near him oo no cause its fertilized....

Mind over matter I say
(btw he wont eat pork now cause he watched a show on what pigs will eat...and there was NO end to that list)

eta: when he was asked why he will not eat a fertilized egg, he said "as soon as the rooster does his deed the bones in the chick start to develop and he has had an egg "crunch" before, and it was just minutes after the hen laid the egg, the bloom was not dry yet"

I didn't look at the response as rude. I looked at it as common sense. You are entitled to your opinion, but your reason is just plain silly. You are no more eating a rooster sperm then you would be eating a bull's sperm if you ate a steak, or a fish sperm if you ate caviar. The same could be said for plants.

Once again, before the wrath begins, you are entitled to your opinion, but if you are you are unwilling to hear/read the response...don't post. By calling the response rude, you are in fact acting as you have accused. You believe you would be eating Roo sperm, the responder does not...two differing opinions. To each their own.

I was actually born in Hong Kong, and my mom would tell me about how she'd buy eggs that were sworn up and down by the seller to be unfertilized and crack them open and discover they had eyeballs.

Personally, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I work with medical reports all day, I'm pretty unsquickable.

They have "baluts" in China too. I know this because I wandered over to see what everyone was standing in line for. BIG line! Unfortunately I don't know what they call them as I never ever ever ordered one.

They also have all kinds of things on sticks....you can use your imagination here. Kind of like the Iowa State Fair but without the fried twinkies! Also check out Century eggs! Gotta love the color!

This whole thread is making me kind of nervous though. I don't mind the bullseye but when I was in 5th grade we had an incubator in the classroom and they opened up an egg every 2-3 days or so. Right up until the end. I didn't eat eggs for a long long time. I plan to collect eggs daily. I'll check the nests THOROUGHLY. Has it happened to many people that they get an egg that has a partially developed chick? I think that might spell the end of my egg eating days. So....this has to be really really rare right??? (please!)
