Why do people get so worked up about eating a fertilized egg?

A while back there was a thread much like this one. Someone stated they knew someone that "could taste the rooster"...I still get tears in my eyes when I think about that post. I now ask folks that come over to eat if they can..taste the rooster....

I don't have any trouble eating a fertilized egg. Having said that, I did have an incident a couple years back. I went to fry an egg one morning, cracked it and had a pan full of blood. Gross! I felt soooo bad. Apparently, one of my girls had been hiding an egg from me during nest box collections and that one got some heat on it for a few days and started to develop. I couldn't even think about eating another egg for a couple of months, I was so sick about it.

It did teach me a lesson. Since then, if one of the girls is in the nest during egg collection, I pretty much lift her up and check every square inch of that nest to make very sure that all eggs are accounted for.

Most of the eggs that we eat and the eggs that our customers eat are fertilized. We have a rooster in with our hens. Our customers realize that unless the eggs are incubated there won't be a chick. But we do have a friend who won't eat our eggs after a bad experience with her brother's chickens eggs.

She was cracking eggs into a frying pan and there was a partially incubated chick in the pan. She'll only eat supermarket eggs now. I told her that it's her loss and that her brother should have been more diligent about collecting his eggs!

The reason that we have a rooster with our hens that provide us with eating eggs is that sometimes we incubate the eggs for ourselves and for our neighbors who want EE's or Leghorns.

You know, i don't know if this is appropriate or not, but whenever i hear that people don't like to eat fertilized eggs, it reminds me of abortions

I don't know why!
