I would ask for a copy of the rules or by-laws. They probably don't have any and they cannot by law tell you what to sell them for unless there are written rules as common law would be implied which means you are bound by free commerce laws. In most cases. to answer your post question some people are control freaks!

they get mad when you drop the price. If you live on a road with traffic you could put out a sign....it takes a little while to build buyers and word of mouth does go a long way.

Make and hand out business cards with contact information; you can mention that prices from your home do not have the overhead, and are therefore a bit less expensive. As was suggested, you could use stamp cards and give the 8th dozen away free, generating return customers. Another idea is to sell in lots of 6, 9, 12, 18 and maybe even 24. Set the prices so that as the customer purchases more, they pay less per egg. For example, you could sell 6 eggs for $2.50, 9 for $3.50, 12 for $4, 18 for $5.75 or 24 for $7.

And yes, price fixing is illegal. Pretty sure it's a Federal law.​

I would see if there is someone over her head you can go. That seems so silly of the women to delete your orders. I would offer to sell to family and friends or perhaps if their is post boards around your area that allow you to do little ads. I would just not deal with the co opt. You should be able to set any prices you want for your eggs.

I would want to sell outside of the farmers market on your own. The woman should not be able to control your sales to benefit her own. Sure there is competition when more people are doing the same thing,but surely there is enough buyers to share and not be a jerk about it!

I would distance myself from the co-op and tell them exactly why.

It's a CO-OP. Think Union. Those are likely the rules of the game. Sell there, play by the rules. Would've been better to know that going in, and in writing, but hey. 13% commission too!. Nice. If you wanna play over that field, ya gotta use their ball, I guess. Frankly, if it works and you're happy with your take, continue. If you don't like it, sell them somewhere else.

While not the same, we have towns and villages around us who charge exorbitant prices to rent stalls at their "farmers markets". I don't know of how many of us farmers can pay their prices. It's a shame it has come to this in far too many places.
