Why do some replies show the picture, but others show "attachment"

I vaguely remember seeing a setting like this. Where did you see it?

I did not see a setting. This is what I have figured out so far:

To get a quote with a viewable image I have to "select", then +Quote or Reply

Does that make sense?

Yes It does, now if only I can remember that when I want to do it

If I reply to a post that was made *before* the transition to the new platform the picture appears inline.

Yes, that makes sense because of the way we needed to import those images.

So ..does it make a difference if you choose to reply vs. quote if the picture shows up or not?

To get the picture to show up you must select it then click the *black* +quote or reply. The *blue* +quote and reply show it as an attachment.
