Why do we love chickens so much?

They smell wonderful just after a dust bath and some sunnin'.
They are combination dog and cat...they are watchful, protective and always happy to see you but can take care of themselves.
They don't care that I am not an expert carpenter.
They have such beautiful colors and combinations
The fluffy chicken bottoms are so darn adorable.
There is that one special bird that will sit on your lap to cuddle and coo at you when you feel bad.
They are addictive...hubby doesn't mind that I want to add more to the flock because they lay delicious eggs for him

already planing for next spring!

Love the comment:
"Put themselves to bed better than my own children" So true!
I find them very meditative as well. There is nothing like watching them peck around the yard. They seem to know they are safe and someone is watching out for them while they do their thing. Between me and the rooster I am not sure who does more "watching out." Never thought I would grow so attached to "chickens."

My adults put themselves to bed early, the teenagers like to stay out right until dark. That can be annoying when you have to get up at 5:30 am and it doesn't get dark until 10pm :rant

they are helping me battle my depression. never in a million years I thought i would be a chicken owner. now i can't see myself without them!!! between them, my ducks and my son, they keep me occupied after a long day at work laughing so hard i can't breathe. i woulnd't change a thing

Yes they are a wonder drug, aren't they? :D

Chickens are the ultimate stress reliever. I sit out under the trees and watch my chickens when I let them out to free range. One of my roosters jumps up in my lap and follows me around everywhere. When I go to pet one of the "girls" and she does the "egg squat" for me, my heart just melts. The little trills and peeps of my babies are like music to my ears. They produce the most wonderful colorful eggs so they give back for all of the love they get. It is like a treasure hunt every day. I love each distinct personality and love to watch for their personalities to develop so I can give them a suitable name. I would love to have room to have some of every breed on earth!
