WHY do you have geese?

No shame, my animals are just extremely spoiled! I wish we had an orchard I love fresh fruit and nuts. Every time I plant a fruit tree mother nature takes it back, I used to have a green thumb but where I live now not so much

I have had a green thumb since birth. Really! But here is the most challenging place I have ever tried to grow in. I kill so much. I wanted tomatoes 6 years in a row I failed. I grow them in pots now. I just picked some this morning. Not much but its better than nothing. We have to many varmits that chew and eat everything. Trees of any kind are tuff. I have found a few that grow. I started my orchard with my own grafts to get them on standard root stock. I think they can take drought and my winds better than the store bought fruit trees. I do not have luck with them. It has been alot of babying them along. Maybe you should try buying bench grafts instead or graft your own. I now have over 50 trees. Sunset Garden Book list my zone as the most extreme and challenging of all zones. My micro climate is even worse than my zone. I won't give up.

Agreed, I also struggle because our zone does not account for high altitude. We have tried so many varieties along with contacting the master gardeners at our extension office, we just stink at growing things here, I may have to try grafts, great suggestion. Our garden is actually making some headway this year, I have to keep DE on it or the voracious bugs eat it all, that's if the rabbits and other critters leave anything behind.
First tomato of the season, yep a bird at it after the pic was taken, seriously about two hours later

I have geese because 1 1/2 months ago my husband on impulse bought some goose eggs to throw into the incubator. He thought that we could make a few bucks on them. 2 of them survived and now I have fallen in love with them and cannot wait to see what kind they turn out to be. They are something to watch that is for sure. I don't think that they will be sold at auction any time soon. Hubby wants to watch them chase me around the barnyard when they get big! I cannot see these things doing such a thing:p.

On the few occasions I had visited Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, I had noticed the geese they have there for adoption. They also have a resident goose there "Pringles" who is just the sweetest goose ever. I went back and adopted my "Gordon", a 15 (give or take) year old Embden with arthritis. He needs daily medication and I love him dearly. He is sweet and funny. He has never bitten or shown me any aggression since the day I brought him home. I can pet him and pick him up and carry him. Since I got him I have since gotten a gosling. A female (hopefully) Sebastopol. She has been a real treat.

I am really hoping for a happy, non abusive relationship with my new geese
