Why do YOU have quail?

I eat them and their eggs, then before I run out of them I breed them, so I can have more meat and eggs.

They're cute little things, I like watching them. I'd like some more colors but I don't want to get overburdened with too many!

I have them for eggs - small but yummy - and enjoyment - they are so fun to watch - and for meat

It is so rich and filling! Fried breasts and legs are my kids favorite but I love em just simmered in water with onion and garlic till tender.

Aw HECK! Have to go thaw out my last packet now, am hungry!

Was waiting till the school schedual settled down to set some more eggs. Its settled now so time for cheepies again

And snacks. Cull a bird, cover with fresh made Salsa Verde, steam in Micro, at the moment I can't think of anything better. Must be dinner time.

Much faster to and easier to deal with than even chickens. For me anyway, I'm getting up there in years and I need easier and a good variety of home grown small meats.

And pickled Eggs, Love them. Have 3 different varieties in the Frig now and Spicey canned up for winter on the pantry shelf. Great for protein snacks, salads, egg salad, etc.

They are cool to watch. They'll sing when they see you coming to bring their food and change out their water. They wait for me to change out their water, then they start laying. Then they want their water changed again later. Its been real hot here, their whole short life so far.

I got mine originally because I had not seen them come through our local auction very much at all, so I figured I could make some money from them. Last year I sold eggs like mad, I was at least 2 weeks behind on egg orders all summer (hatching eggs). I do not eat them, and cannot eat their eggs (allergic), so other than making a little extra money on selling them or their eggs, they are just pets.

Lately I've gotten some of the more rare colors though, so now I like to play around with that. They are very cool little birds, and I just love them

I raise Bobs to eat............... and keep plenty of mature birds on hand to supply fertile eggs................so I can hatch out more to raise and eat....................while keeping plenty of mature birds on hand to supply fertile eggs.............so I can........well.........repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat,..................

Pets! The eggs are great, too! All vegetarians in this house, so none of birds get eaten.

I far prefer knowing the eggs come from birds that are humanely raised!

I tend to let the soy beans live too, poor little over exploited things that they are

Just finished cleaning and rearanging my big quail pen. I looks so good that I find myself just leaning on the door and watching the girls run in and out of the grass clumps pretending to be big bad birds of prey.

Watch out all you grasshoppers!
