Why do you keep chickens

Why do you keep chickens? Is it for their eggs, the meat, showing them, just having them around I can't wait to find out?!

Extra males for meat. I also breed and just enjoy keeping them. The ones I keep are similar to how horses are for most people

Chickens have a variety of uses around here. Tick control, meat, and eggs are the main ones. My daughter has a few favorites that are more like pets. She enjoys picking them up and bringing them into the house to show me.

My chickens are pets, family. They are my babies, if they're a bit weird, or if they stop laying, they will still be treated the same. The eggs are a bonus, but not the reason I have them. They're just fantastic pets.

Same here. I originally got them for the eggs but they quickly became pets now I've gotten some breeds just because I want them as pets not the eggs.

Pets, therapy, love, a listening ear, chickens are awesome. I don't really care about eggs but I love the colors.

X2 They are what get me up in the morning. When one dies or I have to rehome them, I am encouraged that there are still the others that need me.
