I like it because it helps people to learn about how to take care of their chickens and to not kill them by accident. It can be a harsh world for a chicken and their only hope in life is their owner. Whether a person is planning to get chickens or already has chickens, there's a lot of information here.

I first came here when I was looking for someone to split a hatchery order with. I wanted to get more of a particular breed, but didn't want to get a big order this time. I stayed, because a lot of people needed help and there weren't very many experienced chicken keepers on the forum a couple of years ago. I find some of the topics that get discussed to be very interesting, also.

I love my girls because they're always happy to see me, give me eggs, entertain me, fertilize and aerate my garden, and brighten any day I see them. They also "introduced" me to all of these wonderful people on BYC.

Of course, they poop on everything and dig up my garden (see "aerate"), but it's worth their company and entertainment value.

ETA - Coffeelady3 and I met on Craigslist b/c we both wanted chicks but in our county you have to buy a minimum of 6. She was my BYC "dealer".

I was googling information on chickens because I want to get some and found this site. I've been on several forums and this is by far the nicest group of folks I've ever run across.

I googled pictures of chickens and byc came up, I entered and ignored the addiction warning and HER I AM!
