i seem to like the fact that i can handle such tasks... feeding, bathing, playing and cleaning... now i am really looking into coop designs because i will to pursue the chooks... as of now my primary intension would be getting eggs from them... lol i think its really fun when you get the first egg and i intend to make the flock bigger.... haha

ok guys, now your answers are up next... ehehehe

i got 2 for a daily fresh egg for my daughter, and i ended up with 2 coops 4 hens 1 rooster and 3 young chicks and 1 bobwhite quail

now i love them and i am VERY addicted to them

I decided to obtain chickens after a 25 year hiatus because I wanted the entertainment. I'm sure after reading my adventures of Cardboard Corral you probably figured that out on your own. I love to watch animals in their natural environment (people too, but that is considered spying), and learn how they interact with each other. I take great satisfaction in the fact that I took 16 one day old chicks and raised them to be adventurous teenagers who enjoy exploring their world. I like how they are so excited to see me even if I don't have food. Each chick has a personality all her own, and I'm amazed that after all the genetic manipulation we did to produce so many variables within the species that these birds still have the basic instinct to freeze when alarmed then flee for safety. And despite our rigorous selective breeding for egg layers and no broodiness you will still see an occasional production leghorn hen set on eggs. No matter what we do to them they will be a chicken.

I have chickens because they are fascinating and fun.

- true!

come on guys.... lets keep the posts running... hehe

I started raising my own as a protest to battery chickens. Did not want to promote that kind of life for a chicken let alone any animal. Then I fell in love. I started with 2 now have around 30. Got into hatching this last fall and have hatched out 50+ Dh wanted ducks so we got 2 last summer. Lost one cause hubby forgot to lock them up one night so we got a male to go with the girl. I have hatched 9 of their babies. I couldnt imagine life now without them.

I started out just wanting fresh eggs. I've had them when I was younger and less knowledgeable, but I did okay. I was only going to get 10 or so. I have 31 and 27 eggs in the incubator. Oiy! I have an all or nothing personality.

I'm afraid I'm all into this, now!

I raise chickens for several reasons. I like to watch them (they are pretty and do funny things). I also like to raise and sell them. It is quite satisfying to raise something up from egg to chick, or chick to chicken and then have someone else want what you produced. Eggs are nice too (although right now I don't have that many chickens yet so I mostly just hatch the eggs). There have been many periods of time that I stopped having chickens (predator problems, having a baby and no time), but I always come back to them.

Well, we haven't yet. Most of mine (25) are chicks ranging from 3.5 weeks to 5 weeks. I only have 6 laying hens. Of the chicks, it looks like at least 5 or 6 may be roos. We can't have roos. So we will have many chicken dinners!
