Is anyone a cat behavioural psychologist?

Over the last week sonia the cat has started climbing up my leg. I'll standing somewhere in the house, minding my own business (i.e. cooking dinner, brushing my hair) and suddenly there is a cat affixed to my knee cap with all four sets of claws. Then she meows at me once she's there.

Then, last night, I was standing there, and suddenly she launched from the ground to my shoulder! Clawing me as she lost balance and fell to the ground again.

What IS she doing? I don't speak cat!! Is she mad at me, in love with me, thinks I'm taking over her territory? It's not very pleasant, and wish I could make it stop. Any ideas?

I've had cats for a long time and have never had that experience. It sounds like she's definitely trying to tell you something. Is she using her litter box normally? If she continues with this, a trip to the vet might be in order. She might be in pain and just can't tell you where it hurts.

I have some that do it, for attention. They want me to pet them, like NOW. lol It's very annoying and trying to knock them off doesn't work and only ends with more pain. *sigh*

My cat tries to climb my leg when he wants attention. I just removed the paws and when I'm done doing whatever I'm doing, then I pick him up and love on him. He's a big baby-cat [IMG]

She's probably just very sweet and loves you alot, she wants you to pay attention to her! There was a cat at the cat boarding facility I used to work at that adored me and would do that all the time to me. And if I was kneeling (which I was doing alot scrubbing out kennels) he'd come infront of me and give me sort of a big hug, and cling with his front paws on my shoulders, and I could litterally walk around with him like he was a cat necklace [IMG] I wanted to cat-nap him.

It could just be attention seeking, but if it's something she's never done before, it could be more than that. Is she eating and drinking okay?

assuming your cat is not doing anything else actually worrisome, I would guess perhaps he (she?) has just invented a new hobby. They do that sometimes. I think it comes to them in dreams. Sleeping all the time can do that [IMG]

If you don't like your new career as a treetrunk or scratching post, and I know *I* haven't liked it when cats of mine have tried it, just remove cat, explain to cat that the new idea, while clever, is a no-go, and make sure to pay extra attention to the cat *at other times* (NOT after he/she/it has been playing Sir Edmund Hilary on you). The shoulder-leap thing takes some vigilance to prevent, but if the cat gets the message that you don't like it and will just remove and then ignore the cat, the truth will eventually sink into its furry little brain.

Of course then some OTHER hobby may occur to him or her. But, what can you do [IMG]

    Good luck,

    Pat

I have a cat that started doing something similar. If I'm brushing my teeth she jumps on my back when I lean over to spit. She does the same thing when I'm tending the fire in the fireplace. She just wants attention. I take her off and give her a big hug (which she hates).

Sadly, she's decided the time I am most likely to have my hands free is when I'm on the throne. If I don't close the bathroom door REALLY tight, she busts in on me (door doesn't latch right unless you lean on it). If I do shut the door tight she cries outside the door and body slams it until I've washed my hands and turned the knob enough for her to barge in. Then she jumps onto the counter and insists on love. Kinda fun to watch her fuzzy face smiling at the mirror while I pet her though...

I had a kitty that did that! If I was on the phone and didn't pay attention to her, she'd crawl right up my backside. oooowwww

She also like to play fetch and chase me around my apartment like a dog. She was a fun girl.

    It's just your kitty's personality.
