why dont all my pullets lay a egg a day only get 50/% of them to lay

As I said, normal and healthy. I imagine laying an egg every day is pretty uncomfortable!

yes if all my 17 birds were laying 5 eggs a week with 2 days off i should get 80 eggs a week. well i have been averaging around 60 eggs a week. got 58 eggs this week. so that tells me i have 4 birds on vacation roughly.

Not necessarily. I have new layers, and a few are really cranking them out (like my BR and my BA). But I have two who are laying only 4 a week. I'm sure our temps. are at least slightly milder than yours, and I use a light in there (not to stimulate production, but because I'm in there a lot with them), and keep my coop in the 30s. So maybe a few of your girls are only laying 3-4 eggs a week, easing back into the swing of seasonal laying. So it doesn't mean that some of yours aren't laying at all. Personally, I'd rather mine lay 3-4 eggs a week for several years than 5-6 a week for just two years.

Once again I say this: Chickens do not lay an egg a day! Maybe some do but I've never seen a hen like that! Mine all lay about once every two days.

ok i get what your saying. thanks.

blueseal except for your sex links none of your birds are true production egg birds, if you get an egg every other day from most of them you are doing about right at this time of the year and given that some of your birds are likely in their mini moult.

I have 14 pullets and am averaging about 9 eggs a day. I have several that are looking a bit scraggly and appear to be in moult and several that appear to be entering moult. They are just coming up on 10 months.

How old is the jersey giant? Well I have a Jersey GIant rooster and a wyondott rooster and the jg roo started crowing about two weeks before my wyondott roo did and then all the sudden the fight was on the jg is calm and so gentle with the ladies but when he crows or does some buisness with the girls the wyondott roo jumps on him and chases him all around their yard so after a while of this now the jg roo does not crow. I hate it too cause his crow was so manly and bold and the wyondott's crow is sooooo girly and shreel

So as you may of guessed the wyondott roo is top dog the jg didn't even fight him for the right he just gave up and he is much bigger too.

Whose Jersey Giant are you asking about? If it is mine they are all 10 months old on March 9, 2010

Of all the birds I have they are by far the easiest going and are very docile birds, a fuzzy butted chick could boss them around.
