Okay, I was gonna hold my peace on this subject but changed my mind.
Hatcheries: Sell chickens at reasonable affordable prices. True not always up to the APA standard. The APA what are they anyway but another organization that try to tell people what they want. I have ordered from hatcheries for several years and have been happy with what I get except for a chick or two here and there that were not real good. As for what they sell Cackle states in their catalog that they are breeding towards the APA standard, but even private breeders are just breeding toward the APA standards of perfection. Not every chick hatched will be APA approved just because they were by private breeders. They too have their culls. Do they always sell you their best? I think not, they also sell chicks that are not always healty, and are not always APA standard. Do not get me wrong, I'm not ditching on private breeders. I've found most of the time they price their chicks far too high for my pocket book, and I am not a show person, too many rules and such for me, I have gone to shows, usually the local county fair and watched the show.
Another thing that really bugs me about this and the people that post here are the way they really down hatcheries for what they advertise and spell the names of their chicks. I know for a fact that Cackle is now advertising their Easter Eggers as such. They have a writing in the EE section that explains the difference between the Araucana and the Ameraucana then says that they are selling the Easter Egger Chicken and their goals for the EE. Murray McMurray advertise Americana/Araucana, maybe its vice versa. They also state in their ad that they cross american chickens with Aracauna, so maybe they are selling Americanas and not trying to sell Ameraucanas. I am an American that is how you spell American not (Amerucan) so they can spell and sell what they want there are no regulations on how they advertise their products and no rules that says you can't put a name on them if you want to. They (people) have named sex link chickens Black Stars, Red Stars and others, just an example. But lets not talk about spelling looking and reading through some of these links and how some of you spell. I usually can tell when it's just a typo and when you are really spelling things wrong. I've seen there for when it should be (their) again just an example. I've myself have been known to spell things wrong on occaisions (See heres one of them I can't think of how it is suppose to be spelled for the life of me).
So lets not ditch on hatcheries.
There I've said what I want too. Need to talk about it e-mail me.
