Why don't you like hatchery chickens?

Well, I have to disagree on that above part. My wyandottes have lovely lacing.

If I could get rid of this rooster, I would definitely buy two or three POL hens from a reputable breeder rather than order from a hatchery. I say this because I ordered 3 ee's for the pretty eggs and got two pink layers. I was expecting this, but was really looking forward to those green or blue eggs.

Which is why I'd rather just go the breeder route and know that I'm getting what I want.

(And don't hate on the saddlebreds, y'all! I learned to ride on one.)

I don't hate Saddlebreds, they're my *second* favorite breed after Arabs. However, I want an Arab that looks and moves like an Arab. My current horse is a reject from a Park Horse barn. How a 15.2hh Arab stallion (9 National Titles) and a 16hh Saddlebred mare (Society Rex lines) managed to produce a 14.2 hh daughter who looks more like a large Welsh pony--short neck, short legs--is beyond me. Even careful breeders get stuff not up to breed par!

im really sorry you had a bad experience with a crappy hatchery, but please understand that what you are describing is not how all hatcheies operate. to example, if a hatchery is advertising ees as ameraucanas, or even just spelling the name "americanas" to decieve people then that is SHADEY! ther are alot of hatcheries thatDO NOT advertise there ees as anything other than ees. cackle sells ees and says they are ees.
i have some beautiful golden flluffy big buff orping tons from a hatchery, they look like they are supposed to, and my brahmas are not smudged or small. YOU JUST HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A SUPER CRAPPY HATCHERY. I am really sorry about that, i am. but not all hatcheries are like that. you cant just base your opinion on the 1 crappy place you did business with. try somewhere else, see if you get better birds, i bet you will.
EDIT: and about broodieness, we have some hatchery orpingtons that are as broody as the day is long!

You've said this exact same thing on another thread about me just "having a bad experience" - I'm speaking for many other people's experiences, many other hatcheries, and no - Cackle Hatchery specifically told me via email that they have "Purebred Ameraucanas."

Even their website confuses people with "Easter Egg" chickens being Ameraucanas, and shows another breeder's Ameraucanas. Only recent hatcheries like Nature's actually put apart EEs and Ameraucanas as separate. Also, show me some hatchery Brahmas that are not mossy, underweight or skinny looking. . . I'd love to see those. Same with the super fluffy, truly buff colored Orpingtons that meet the standards.

Otherwise I just feel you're trying to put me down specifically, as in the last time you responded, you kept mentioning all hatcheries are good - except Murray McMurray. Care to explain the bias?

An example, this being the hatchery I ordered from

I believe they work through meyers?

I was going to mention them too. Forgot them. They just start that too, as they sell BBS Ameraucana hatching eggs, so they now have to explain the difference.

Okay, I was gonna hold my peace on this subject but changed my mind.
Hatcheries: Sell chickens at reasonable affordable prices. True not always up to the APA standard. The APA what are they anyway but another organization that try to tell people what they want. I have ordered from hatcheries for several years and have been happy with what I get except for a chick or two here and there that were not real good. As for what they sell Cackle states in their catalog that they are breeding towards the APA standard, but even private breeders are just breeding toward the APA standards of perfection. Not every chick hatched will be APA approved just because they were by private breeders. They too have their culls. Do they always sell you their best? I think not, they also sell chicks that are not always healty, and are not always APA standard. Do not get me wrong, I'm not ditching on private breeders. I've found most of the time they price their chicks far too high for my pocket book, and I am not a show person, too many rules and such for me, I have gone to shows, usually the local county fair and watched the show.

Another thing that really bugs me about this and the people that post here are the way they really down hatcheries for what they advertise and spell the names of their chicks. I know for a fact that Cackle is now advertising their Easter Eggers as such. They have a writing in the EE section that explains the difference between the Araucana and the Ameraucana then says that they are selling the Easter Egger Chicken and their goals for the EE. Murray McMurray advertise Americana/Araucana, maybe its vice versa. They also state in their ad that they cross american chickens with Aracauna, so maybe they are selling Americanas and not trying to sell Ameraucanas. I am an American that is how you spell American not (Amerucan) so they can spell and sell what they want there are no regulations on how they advertise their products and no rules that says you can't put a name on them if you want to. They (people) have named sex link chickens Black Stars, Red Stars and others, just an example. But lets not talk about spelling looking and reading through some of these links and how some of you spell. I usually can tell when it's just a typo and when you are really spelling things wrong. I've seen there for when it should be (their) again just an example. I've myself have been known to spell things wrong on occaisions (See heres one of them I can't think of how it is suppose to be spelled for the life of me).

So lets not ditch on hatcheries.

There I've said what I want too. Need to talk about it e-mail me.
