Agree with all the positive comments abotu ducks!
It does take some effort and thought to set up a housing arrangement that will work well for ducks and keep them happy. You need a system that can handle more poop and water than is the case with chickens. But once you have your set-up sorted they are easy peasy, wash'n'wear kind of animals.
- fast learners
- good, unfussy eaters
- they don't peck you
- they are much more social with each other than chickens and if you get a new duck all the other ducks go "Awesome, you got us a new duck!!!" instead of "I wanna be the first one to peck her eyes out" like chickens
- the poopy water is wonderful garden fertiliser
- fantastic layers, much better than any chickens I have had
- they way they walk is hilarious and they so easily make you laugh and smile
- ducklings are much hardier than chicks and can go outside at a younger age
- when ducklings grow up they look cute at all ages, not like chickens that spend ages in the ugly, adolescent stage
- they hardly need any preparation if you want to show them because they wash themselves
