Why go to the store and get cheap wine when I got cheap wine at home..

Last year my Dad taught me the art of wine making. He had been telling me for years how to do it but everytime we tried to make some my grapevine yielded squat. Well it did make grapes but so few the birds beat us to them. Last year a fair amount of grapes were produced and I started my training. This year my Dad is leaving it all up to me so I learn how to make wine on my own. And to see if I have his skill as well.

This year so much went on that the grapevine was neglected but it grew to monster proptions anyways! And it has produced more grapes than my Dad and myself included had expected! It is crazy! But due to the amount of work put into the vine (zero) and I didn't water it either... the grapes came out for free lol. And what I have harvested in the pics is not even half of what is still out there. The vine even climbed a nearby tree ad there are some beautiful looking bunches of grapes up there. Here's my champenal harvest for this year. Still have more to cut though and plenty that will ripen in a few more weeks!

We have made a couple of batches of questionable quality wine quite some time back from supermarket cherries and grape juice. Wine from your own grape vines has got to be a ton better.

As a wine maker myself, or I used to be, DH won't let me anymore because it stinks up the house, I would suggest washing and FREEZING the grapes first. Freezing does something to the cellular make up and makes for better wine! Great luck! If you need any tips let me know.

Now off for some homemade blackberry or blueberry wine. Which should I choose?

We have what our neighbor told us are wine berry bushes growing wild in our yard and all through our woods.

So far we have been eating them, making pies out of them, and feeding them to the chickens.

Anyone know if they make decent wine? I mean, with a name like wine berry, you would think so...

If so, got a recipe?

This thread has got me thinking about making wine now...
