Why guinea fowl?

Why? Like chickens do they lay lots of eggs or have good meat quility?

There are other reasons.... The ones I have are:
1. walking burglar alarms (unfamiliar people)
2. Tick eaters
3. good foragers
4. entertainment value
5. predator alarms
6. eggs
7. taste like pheasant (dont know yet but I have heard)

ALL good points! I sold dozens and dozens of the keets last year, for mostly those reasons.

I should have pointed out that guineas are SEASONAL layers.

Guineas are seasonal layers so they do not lay as many eggs as chickens. They are, however, marvelous entertainment. We call them goonie-birds here. They are nutty critters, nothing like chickens, but they are awesome tick eaters. Their plumage is beautiful, too. Mine were very tame, but it takes working at it to get them that way as they are just not as domesticated as chickens.

I got my guineas for tick and bug control (started off with 6 very young chicks) - never ever realized how much entertainment we would get out of them - they are sooooooo funny. They drive me crazy at times, but just cannot imagine life without them now (and we now have around 25)...........love them!

pulled 25 ticks off of myself before the guineas....2 after.

one the dogs 28 ticks before....1 after.

aint zactly rocket science.
