Why is it bad for silkies to have red combs

She may be getting ready to lay soon. For chickens that have red combs, the pullets combs and wattles will get bigger and darker once they reach POL (point of lay).

That’s interesting. I know that at least one of the females is laying but none in her group have layed yet. I’ve had them for a week and a half so I know it will take time for them to adjust

Yes I know. That’s the one I was talking about giving to my grandson. He will not be used for breeding. Once they are out of quarantine, he will be isolated from the females.

Does your grandson have other chickens? Single chickens aren't a great idea.

the rooster with the largest comb has a sigle comb, which is also incorrect for silkie.

No. But that’s what I was kind of thinking too. I may give him a couple of chickens.

I raise the type. Typically this variety is LF(Largefowl), with roosters that can be 4-5lbs at full maturity.
These are best for meat, but also adding uniqueness to the flock.

I know this post was months ago but the same thing happened to me, reputable breeder, comb and wattle redder than yours. Not sure what to do with him at this point but he is beautiful.
