Why is it easier to buy a dog then save one?

we dont have a fence here either really. Now, technically we do....their potty area is fenced in so nothing strikes their fancy when I take them out to potty. My male cocker i take out off leash and he follows me into the potty fenced in area....my female mutt I take out on a leash, she's all that and more of the hyperness in every breed she's mixed with

So she has to be on a leash.

The fence that lines our property line is just for show, it's a fence alright but all it could sucessfully keep in is a large or fat horse.

Then the other fence out back is for my chickens.

So technically it's not fenced in.

I think fences are a dumb excuse personally. If you have control over your dogs (via leash or verbal) then you dont really need a fence. I take my dogs out to potty WITH ME. They arent out to wander by themselves taht'd scare me too much. Then again fences dont even keep all dogs in.....LOL!

Thank you. He is very pampered, and I brush him frequently. I agree, if you don't have the time or ambition to properly care for a dog's coat, then you shouldn't get a long haired dog. One of the things that I love about Leo is that he never sheds. The only places I have ever found his hair are on his body and in his hairbrush. And he love chickens, especially chicks!

the people whom are adopting out are looking for "perfect homes".

Isn't that kind of like leaving a kid rot in an orphanage because Angelina Jolle and Brad Pitt weren't available?

It varies here. Some rescues and shelters are better than others about it. None locally are as bad as the ones that you are talking about, but the ones in the more expensive areas nearby are.

I totally understand some of the things they expect. I think making sure they get along with your already existing dogs is a great thing, personally. You wouldn't want to bring it home, find out the clash and have to bring it back and/or find a new home for it.
