Why is my EE eggs brown?

My EE hen who I hatched myself laid her first egg today and it was brown. I am so disappointed!! The roo was an EE out of a blur shell and mama hen a green egg layer. So how did this happen? I was hoping for blue but would have been happy with green.

They carry the brown egg gene. Breeding a Brown and blue layer together makes ee or OE. So it’s still a chance for a brown egg.

Probably the parents each only had one copy of the blue gene.
