Why is my Hen is attacking me!

I'm so glad to hear that this is a documented method.. I've done this from the start with my girls (one was particularly flighty & combative).. and I got the same result. The squat when approached!

My hens are sweet but one RIR gets jealous if hold another hen and pecks me cause she's mad. My hand raised barred rock rooster is a big meanie and has nailed me several times. ( lots of bruises and some blood! – just pisses me off!!) I have nailed him back but he doesn't seem to learn.

But for some twisted reason I love him...I just carry a stick and push him away if he tries anything. A couple of times he has been hurt - once by the turkeys and then another time recently - not sure what happen. Both times I picked him up took him in the house and doctored him. He fell asleep in my lap and I think was grateful I helped him.....however as soon as he felt better...........he's back to evil rooster. So who knows!

My friend had mean hens too...not sure why. All I know is that one jumped up and got a hold of my lip!! I couldn't believe it and was laughing and then Julia said you better go look at your lip. I had a big blood blister! Still kinda funny though! Maybe hens get PMS!

I used a hose before too. I had one hen that was constantly getting on top of and beating up the pullets. I was afraid she was going to kill one as she looked like she was after blood. I would squirt her with a hose I had handy whenever I saw her pouncing on one of the younger birds. Every time I saw her jump on and wail away on one of the pullets I squirted her with a hose. She eventually got the message or was getting tired of being squirted and decided it just wasn't worth it.

True enough! This morning I was watering my rabbit - not paying attention and he nailed me! Because I didn't know he was coming I screamed like a girl! Well I am a girl but it is hard to respect myself when I do that. Anyway I got after him - but I have scrathes and bruises and he is just fine! I just can't bring myself to take him to the feed store and give him up. Crazy I know.....but ..... to be profound...it is what it is!

One of my hens just started coming after me and attacking me. She now does it almost everyday. How are you to pick her up if she if attacking you and pecking you? I have used a fishnet before. But will she continue to peck me, if I catch her. I usually carry a small rake into the enclosed area with me. But sometime she just charges at me. What do I do???

Yes, but I reread the first post. The hen is not in a nest. I have had several RIRs get a bit agressive in the past, so I can relate.

"My RIR recently started confronting me and pecking me. She'll run up to me and fluff her feathers. When I come to a stop because she's run in front of me, she'll peck me. What is this all about. I'm about to lose it with her. She drew blood on my foot this morning."
