I came outside and my hen was making this noise? Sounded like a donkey.... or a cat with hiccups?!?! Very strange! Never heard it before, she is now safe and content sleeping in the coop? Does anyone know what this means?
    Thanks in advance!

I have a hen who sounds like that when she tries to crow. Some hens do try to crow, and it can sound, let me put it delicately - unique.

If you know it is a hen because you've seen her lay eggs, then I agree with Azygous, adult hens can make some funny sounds.

If it is a younger bird, your hen may be a rooster. Young roosters make all manner of odd sounds until they figure out how to crow.

I would watch her to make sure she is fine tomorrow and doesn't look ill in any way. Chickens can sound very odd when they cough or wheeze, and sometimes they get something stuck in their craw and have to clear it with something like the hiccups.

It's probably just normal chicken sounds, but keep an eye on her.

Can you post a pic of her, and how old is she?
