Why is my hen nipping/pulling on my clothes and skin?

My chickens don't just "groom" me, they preen me! If I'm carrying my white orp and ruffle her bum feathers a bit, she closes her eyes and tries to preen my arm. It's quite an odd sensation!!! Unfortunately, she also tries to get my attention with a sharp peck and it HURTS. What kind of bonding is that?!!? I'm probably going to be turned into a crazy chicken lady, too. When I talk to my chickens, they talk back!!!

My white leghorn pullet waits for me to get out of the swimming pool, then repeatedly pecks and drinks the drops of water clinging to my legs! Not exactly painful, but definitely an odd sensation. She's a funny one...won't tolerate any kind of handling and jumps away if I even gesture towards here, but she's also the one that always stays closest to me.

This is a demand for more petting. It's absolutely normal for the nicest and most social of birds.
