Well, I'm the type of person who washes my hands every time after I go out to the chicken coop and tend the birds - even if I was wearing gloves. I have shoes and boots that I use for tending my animals and I never consider wearing my everyday shoes when I work in the coop or run. That's the way I was taught years ago and it's just my way of doing things. I would never consider wearing flip flops when working with my birds. If I am doing some dirty work out in the coop and cleaning up all the dusty litter, then I'll take off my clothes when I first get into the house and throw them in the washer. I'll take a good shower and put on clean clothes. I don't want to spread anything in the house where we live.
If your young chicken is biting you, I suggest picking her up and holding her firmly to let her know who is the boss. If your birds are hungry, then they may be looking for food from you. When I raised meat chickens I only fed them a couple times a day and they got to the point where they would almost attack me when I showed up with a bucket of feed. My laying hens have access to a feeder 24/7 and they have never shown aggressive (hungry) behavior towards me. Anyway, I think you should be able to correct this situation. I'd start with wearing shoes and covering your feet....
