Why is my rooster's comb turning black?

He's a welsummer and the tips of his comb are turning black?

What can I do about it? They are inside the barn and there is a heating lamp, though they don't use it...

Sounds like frostbite...if it is the tips.

Check your ventilation. If there isn't a way for the moisture to escape the coop, they can get frostbitten with higher temps.

Ours get that too. Rub some vasaline or Aquaphor on it and it will heal quicker.

Not knowing your location but assuming it is in a cold area I also would guess frostbite. My Maran's roo has had the tips of his comb frostbitten this winter and it turned black. Seems like the tips kinda dried up and fell off. On the bright side- next winter he will have a shorter comb and less chance to have frostbite! My Araucana's and EE's don't have a problem due to their short little pea combs.
