why is one of my chicks stinky? UPDATE!!

only thing about doing that is that well before she stunk all over right? the bath made the stink go away except for one area, so if she were stinky from an infection why would the rest of her feathers stink? right??? because the bath def made the majority of the stink go away. that and also she's one of the healthy ones (I had two that I've been trying to figure out what was wrong with them) and she's stunk like this from the beginning... so thats like 2 1/2 weeks of being stinky... if she had an infection of some sort wouldn't she be showing signs or acting weird by now? thats why I question any infection since its been so long and the bath cut down on the majority of it and now its just located to one area instead of all over.

When birds clean themselves they use their beaks. If her beak is the sorce of the odor then preening herself will spread the smell. I'm wondering why you chose to smell the bird in the first place? I know what they walk in and eat around. This makes me very leery of putting my nose anywhere near them.

Best of luck to you

You know the wet, runny, stinky poo they do every couple of hours? Well, they have a special loop in their intestine that houses that particular nastiness. It happens to clean out every 8-10 poos.

Sometimes this runny stuff can get stepped in, and they often step on one another. I can easily see one getting contaminated and walking around smelling awful, but not displaying poopiness.

YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU SMELL IT.

I hug and kiss my birds. I'm not afraid. I also hug and kiss my dogs and cat...and kids. I know what all of them walk in, around and figure I'm boosting my immune system.

Me too. My husband thinks I'm crazy - but I figure it's a boost to my immune system. Besides I can't resist any of them (dogs, cats, chickens, horses or rabbits)

If she were mine, even though she is not losing weight, I would try the treatment for sour crop with live yogurt and organic ACV for several days. She could have a fungal infection in there that has not advanced to the point of weight loss, I would think. I'm no expert, this is just guess work -- but it isn't going to hurt her.

No reason you can't wash the head with the washcloth, too.

dont have to get too close to this one... can smell her from a foot away. and if Im petting her on my lap its quite obvious since the others do not smell that way.
