This morning our rooster (age 15 months old) was found dead. Not any kind of attack. He was molting for the last few weeks, but appeared to be eating fine, drinking ok. No signs of anything negative that we could see such as mites or lice. No breathing issues, and his comb was still red (not blue or purple), so it wasn't cardiac. No worms in poop.

For about 1-2 weeks, he had runny poop, but otherwise it looked ok. About 2 days ago, he had very runny and yellow poop, with some small green chunks of normal poop within the runny poop. Yesterday, he was "hiding" in the coop. He was standing and walking, but under the roosts in the coop during the day, which is unusual.

This morning, he was dead in the coop, with blood that appeared be have come out of his nostrils (hemorrhaging?) - see pic.

Any ideas why he died? Everyone else (all females aged 4 months - 2.5 years old) seem fine - no issues.

I'm sorry for your loss 😥😥😥

We don’t see snakes here, although that doesn’t rule it out. They live in a large run, and have an elevated coop.

Sorry for your loss.
Snake usually leaves a wet head and neck.
Necropsy possible(even DIY)?

we might be able to. I need to find out where I could send it, and find out where spouse put it. We could open up the rooster too, but not sure we would know what we were seeing if we found an anomaly. Some things would be obvious, of course.

Needs to be kept cold, but not frozen to send out.
@Kiki had a list of labs.

DIY can be tough if you've never slaughtered a bird to know what 'normal' looks like,
but I think you have? Even then might not be something obvious,
and cause usually needs lab work.

"Rooster too"...there was another dead bird?
