Why is there a hole in my duck egg every day?

Local birds getting a taste for eggs ?? Do you have chickens as well that may be eating them?? Its odd that its just one hole as I would think whatever is eating them would just smash it..

If this is your ducks first time at laying, curiosity might entice her to peck at her eggs. Also, it take a lot to pierce a duck egg shell...make sure she has sufficient calcium in her diet supplied either with foods or oyster shells.

It's happening right after she lays it...don't know if it's her or one of the drakes that hangs with her or the other hen. I beat them all to the punch this morning & was at the pond come daylight, got it before a hole appeared!

Will try to take a pic next time it happens.

never seen a duck eat an egg, their bills not made for peircing the shell, too broad, chickens and they like on the other hand are masters at it. I'd look somewhere other than the ducks being the culprit. Thier toe nails would be the only possible thing that could crack one, they just dont have the "pecking" strenght or tools to do it, I mean, look at it this way, have you ever seen a duck, peck like a chicken... Go to be something else

I had a hole in one of my duck's eggs this morning. In that house the ducks always lay in the nest box, but it was just propped up boards. Apparently before they laid the board got knocked over so both hens laid on the floor fairly close to the door. This mating trio goes psycho to get out of their house when they hear me coming to let them out every morning so I'm sure the egg got a good bumping.
