Why isn’t my Tom Gobbling? I’m very confused

So I’ve had turkeys for awhile now but I’ve never had a Tom and after we lost a few hens over the spring we decided to hatch are own and we ended up with a Tom. He’s a blue slate and his name is eggs. I never really knew when Toms started to gobble (I read that about three weeks they should start, he’s almost 6 months) but I knew that he was a little late, he does fan out his feathers and show off for his girls but he never gobbles, he barely even makes noise. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why he isn’t gobbling. [/B]

I am not so sure that it is a tom. At 6 months old the snood of a young tom should reach inches below the beak.

Changed my mind after a second look, that is a hen. It also has the "mohawk" up the back of the neck and on top of her head. A tom would have much bigger caruncles, a much bigger snood and his head would be bald other than a few hairs.

A tom's snood when retracted would form a cone. Hens can and do strut.

I didn’t mean to say six months, didn’t realize that, but I have three other hens not one of them has a snood that is that long, there all smaller them him, they all are very vocal ( not sure if that says anything), the bumps on his neck are much larger then the hens and he’s the only one to fan his feathers and strut around the hens. I don’t mean to sound rude but I’m pretty sure it’s a Tom. Do you think that having an older hen and older chickens might have an effect on anything?

Ok I’ll try that. I was just thinking that he might be stressed out a little because of the older turkey who is a bit bossy. Thanks

I raised Blue Slates for a long time. I have had and still have one Blue Slate hen that has a bigger snood than that.

I have also seen numerous times people posting images of their "toms" because "only toms" strut.

That is a whole lot different than being 6 months old. Personally I believe that turkey is much older than 2 months old.

Oh wow that is a big snood for a hen. I trust you that you may be right and that he’s a hen but I really don’t want it to be true because I’ve been wanting a Tom for a long time and I really thought this was it. I hope he’s just a late bloomer . But thanks for the help.
