One of my eggs from my last hatch had pipped on the wrong end of the egg, I had a couple other pip's at the time and decided to leave it over night as it hadn't been pipped for very long. In the morning it had chipped away in a big circle around its pip and was no longer moving, it had moved its beak away from the opening also. One of my other pip's had hatched and the second was starting to hatch so once it had I went in and grabbed the unhatched egg. It had passed and when I did my egg-topsy it had something wrapped around it's leg similar to yours except much more tightly, the leg was a little swollen around it and it looked like it was attached to the yolk it had mostly absorbed. Also, that tissue was bloody and so was the area around the chicks bottom. Every other egg hatched perfectly and unassisted, but I was just curious to see if anyone could tell me what that thing wrapped around his leg was and if that could have inhibited it's ability to hatch properly?
Not meaning to hijack your thread, but just curious because I haven't seen anything else like it until you posted those pictures and I wanted to tap into the knowledge of all of the hatching experts on here.
Didn't read the thread really, just looked at pics. Does not look like the chicks were shrink wrapped, and looks like chick still in egg is plenty moist, just not ready to hatch. Then later pic of chick outside with twisted foot appears to be developmental deformity.
I don't check humidity... that said, those dead chicks are awefully wet.

i had to slowly move it off as there was a blood vessle in it.
he hasnt been able to get his bearings yet and at this rate i might have to cull him
he isnt able to use that leg right yet i am hoping he will be fine and gain proper use of his leg after taking a good rest. he wont be removed from the incubator for awhile and i give him save a chick which has electrolights and vitamens and a little bit of food. time will tell if he will be alright
