Urbanchickenfarmer: I just acquired 2 RIR hens and 1 RIR roo that came with a coop. They need to go elsewhere. Was gonna bring them to the swap, but I don't want to wait that long. Want em?

I'll think about it.... i already have a RIR hen and a RIR chick that might be a rooster. Its funny my hen came from a random field in CANBY.... Our school athletic trainer found her out there roaming around... and picked her up. She then brought her to our FFA advisor and asked if we could raise her back to health... cause it looked like her legs had had leg bands that were to small and the people waited to long to cut them off. Well she said we could keep her or give her back... and of course i had to keep her.

There are lots of chickens for sale in your area. I just bought 80 pullets from a guy near Mt Angel. I don't know if he sells chicks. There is a guy that just sells chicks by Turner. Since my son does rabbits for his FFA project I know that you really don't want to be picking up freebies and dumping feed into them as you need to have marketable animals in the end. Preferably something you could show at the fair and then sell in the FFA/4-H auction. Since the BYC craze started the prices of pullets have been pretty high but they are starting to come down. I have a Memorial day sale going on right now where I'm selling the aforementioned pullets for $10. With a the FFA discount I could sell them to you for $8 each (bring your FFA card or other proof of membership).

You might know who my son, Spenser, is. He placed fourth in state FFA poultry judging, behind the three kids from North Clackamas.

Anyhow, you can PM me if you need any help on your project. I'm far from a chicken expert but I'm in close contact with four of the state's top chicken gurus and have other contacts that might be of assistance.
